TBI MedSLP Board Members

  • Dr. Adrienne Bratcher

Dr. Adrienne Bratcher serves as Vice President of the TBI MedSLP board. Dr. Adrienne Bratcher, SLP.D, CCC-SLP, CBIST has been a speech-language pathologist for 24 years and has always had a special bond with the medical aspects due to events that shaped her life. When Adrienne was in elementary school, her mom was diagnosed with a brain tumor which led to many medical maneuvers leading to a massive head injury. From that point forward, Adrienne was drawn to helping people who struggled with communication.

After pursuing her masters, Adrienne worked in various settings but then went to work at Eastern New Mexico University where she could not only work with patients, but also educate and train future SLPs. Following taking the position at ENMU and after working for a few years, she decided to pursue a doctorate where she could expand her knowledge and receive further training to better serve her medical based patients and teach students medical based care. Since that time and up to the present, Adrienne’s teaching has focused on neurogenic language (disorders of cognition, Aphasia, Traumatic Brain Injury, and Dementia), counseling, gerontology, and dysphagia.

Adrienne pursued further training to become a Certified Brain Injury Specialist Trainer and finds joy in every cohort of CBIS trainees she has the privilege to teach. She is passionate about advocating for those who have life experiences with a brain injury. Adrienne personally shares the experience within her own family, not only her mom but also her children both having had mild head injuries at a young age and she herself suffering from an injury that thankfully has had only a small lasting impact.

For more than six years she served as a speech and language pathologist at Head Injury Rehabilitation and Referral Services, Inc. in Rockville, MD. Inspired by a passion for cognitive rehabilitation, Laura passed the exam to become a Certified Brain Injury Specialist for the field of Speech Pathology. She has shared her clinical reflections as both a provider and a recipient of this discipline in many articles and dozens of multimedia presentations.
